Publishing a Chrome Extension is simple and cost-effective.

Hey Everyone, how are you doing? Are you Wondering how you publish a chrome extension? Yes, of course, then you are at the very right place dude.

Steps For Publishing your Chrome Extension

To publish your extension to the Chrome Web Store, follow these steps:

  • Create a zip file of our extension.
  • Create and set up a developer account.
  • Upload your item.
  • Add assets for your listing.
  • Submit your extension for publishing.

Step 1: Create a zip file of our extension.

Firstly to upload the extension to the Chrome Web Store, we’ll need to create a zip file that contains all the required files, assets, and most significantly manifest file in the root directory.

Step 2: Create and set up a developer account.

Initially, You need to create a developer account to register as a Chrome Web Store developer.

Note: It costs 5$ to create a Chrome Web Store account

Your dashboard will look like this:

Verify your email address

The important thing here is you have to verify your email address to set up your Google Chrome account.

As you can see below screenshot of my account is verified.

You can simply enter an email address and then request verification. The Chrome Web Store then sends a verification link to that email address you provided.

Use that link to verify your email address.

Step 3: Upload the extension.

Here are a few steps to upload your extension:

  • Go to the Chrome Developer Dashboard.
  • Sign in to the developer account we created earlier.
  • Click the Add new item button.
  • Click Choose file > our zip file > Upload. If our manifest and zip file are valid, we can edit the extension on the next page.

Step 4: Add Store for listing.

  • A title and a brief description of your extension.
  • A 128×128 icon to display in the store.
  • At least one 1280×800 or 640×400 screenshot.
  • A 440×280 small tile icon that will be displayed on the Chrome Web Store wall.
  • Choose the category where your extension should be listed.
  • Your extension’s language to help users find it.
  • Add your google analytics code.
  • Go to privacy practices and add your item description.

Under data usage: You need to tick a few boxes. For that have a look at the below image.

Step 4: Submit an extension for publishing

After we’ve uploaded our extension, we can see it as an item in our dashboard.

Step 5: Publishing extension on the Chrome Web Store.

After the extension is uploaded for review, it will go through a review process.

It will take some time for the review to finish and it depends on how well your extension is qualified.

You’re finally done with publishing your first-ever extension. Great!
