Grabbing a domain name is a straightforward and easy process. If you have never done that don’t worry, I am here to help and guide you in buying your domain name.

In my blogging journey and my online experiences, I have bought many domains from different registrars.

As we get into the process of buying a domain name, let me tell you what is a domain name and why do we need it?

What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is basically your website web address and your web address is your URL – Uniform resource locator. Where you build your brand name and your online business.

Domain Name is the location of your website.

Usually, the website has a sort of numerical IP address (e.g. 223.21.244.2), Which are very harder to remember right? Yes, that’s very harder to remember. It’s all thanks to DNS – (Domain Naming System).

Where the users are able to enter human-readable domain names and be pointed to the websites they are looking for. 

In this process there 2 things you need to understand and know what is the www and. com

Let me illustrate with an example: As the site www.instagram.com, Where www – is the protocol and called as world wide web and the Instagram is the website name or brand and then .com is your extension.

Domain names are just an overlay to such IP addresses and numeric values so that anybody can remember them effortlessly.

How to Buy a Domain Name?

I usually prefer two of the domain registrars: one is google domains and the other one is Namecheap.

So in this example, I’ll be giving a tutorial on how to buy a domain from Namecheap.

Now, let’s see the steps to buy a domain name from Namecheap.

Step 1: Go to Namecheap

The first step is to go to the Namecheap website and search for your domain your looking for.

As you can search for your domain name directly from the main homepage of Namecheap

Step 2: Search Your Domain

Enter your desired domain name in the provided search bar in the center.

Do make sure the register button is toggled. The “Transfer” option is made for individuals who have an existing domain and want to switch registrars. Don’t select that option.

There are different extensions available but I would recommend only the .com domains extension to go with.

As you find your domain name available then you are on a roll.

If it’s available then add it to the cart.

Step 3: Checkout

After you choose your domain, and when buying a domain you have to skip all the extra addons like SSL certificate, professional email, and a few more. You can get all the extra features from your web hosting provider.

After adding it to the cart, choose your preference for Domain privacy and WhoisGuard enabled. This feature protects your personal information from being public. And that’s amazing.

Select Continue to Cart.

Confirm your order and checkout. While the order is confirm and ur above to checkout before that you you’ll be asked to create a Namecheap account.

Create your account and proceed with your payment and domain is all yours.

Once you purchase a domain, You’ll receive a confirmation email.
