Step 1: Set up a Google Ads Account
Before you use Google Keyword Planner, you’ll need a Google account. creating an account hardly takes a few minutes. Once you’ve created an account, go to the Google Ads home page and click Start Now. Now select your Google account to sign in.
You can sign in with your Gmail account and proceed further.
After signing in, Google will guide you on how to use Google ads before you run ads.
You will then have to add your credit card information on whether you plan to run ads.

Step 2: Access Google Keyword Planner
Google keyword planner is a free tool you don’t have to pay any money to use the keyword planner it absolutely free and easy to use.
To open and use Google Keyword Planner, click “Tools & Settings” in the top right corner. From the drop-down menu, select “Keyword Planner” mentioned under Planning.
You’ll see two different tools within Keyword Planner:
- Discover new keywords – This tool provides you with new keyword ideas that you can use to increase your website traffic.
- Get search volume and forecasts – You can use this tool to find out the trend, search volume, and forecast for your desired list of keywords.
This keyword tool is very much enough to get your desired keywords that have great potential for your site to grow.
Step 3: Try the Discover New Keywords Option
So after selecting Discover new keywords, you’ll see two options to opt for: Start with Keywords and Start with a Website.
Start with Keywords
To start with keywords, you can enter your keywords (for example online earning) or phrases (for example: how to earn money online) to find keywords.
You can enter up to 10 keywords/phrases, and if you want, you can enter a domain to use as a filter. After entering the search terms, click Get Results.
Start with a Website
To start with the website you can enter a website URL to find keyword ideas.
After entering the URL you can check the entire website or a specific page of the website. And it gives you the desired results for your search.
Choosing this option is perfect for glancing at what your competitor is doing and how they are getting different keyword ideas for their website.
You can do this by simply entering their website URL and seeing the keywords they’re working on.
Now you can click on the “Get Results” button, Google Keyword Planner will fetch you results using the URL or the keywords you entered and suggest multiple new keyword ideas for you.
Step 4: Try the Get Search Volumes and Forecasts Option
Well, Now, let’s take a look at the second option for finding keywords that are: Get search volume and forecasts.
After Choosing the Forecasts option you just have to enter your keywords or phrases in the box, separated by commas as per line, and click “Get Started.
Google Keyword Planner will then forecast the total number of monthly searches for your searched keywords, impressions, overall cost, average position, and the cost-per-click (CPC) you could expect for the next 30 days.

How to Choose Keywords Using Google Keyword Planner
Finding the keyword would be hard but a clear focus gives you amazing keyword ideas for your website and can grow your business online.
There are various keyword ideas to implement.
- Select a combination of keywords that have high search volume and are less competitive. If you starting your journey online so your focus should be on less competitive keywords than highly competitive keywords, why because working on less competitive keywords would give you a quick rank on google and get you some traffic to your website and grow your business online.
- Look further into each keyword before targeting it with content. Pick different keyword research tools and your own Google searches to expand your research. Look for keyword interpretations, “people also ask” questions, and other related keywords that you might want to move into your content.
- Don’t give up on keywords because they don’t have a huge search volume. Make sure, you want to target keywords with less volume, but if it’s a solid topic for your site, cover it anyway. Organic traffic isn’t the only type of traffic! You can also create content that’s perfect for newsletters or social media but doesn’t have a huge organic search volume. At least, not yet!
